Project Gutenberg provides an impressive array of books in a number of freely downloadable formats. This is a great resource, but it takes a lot of effort from a large number of people to transcribe and proofread the books to maintain the quality. Might I recommend joining the Distributed Proofreaders? You might even learn something in the process.
